Katy Perry Reveals the Sweet Way She Met Fiancé Orlando Bloom During American Idol Premiere
Who would’ve thought a fast food joint brought Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom together?
During the premiere of American Idol on Sunday, Perry, 33, opened up about the sweet (and hilarious!) way she met her fiancé — and it’s everything we had hoped for.
After contestant Johanna Jones, 23, revealed to judges Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie that she works at her local In-N-Out Burger in Las Vegas, Perry jumped with excitement.
“Can I tell you one thing that is kind of sweet?” Perry asked the room. “I met my boyfriend over In-N-Out. We were at the Golden Globes and we weren’t together. So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend’s hand — he wasn’t even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, ‘Hey that’s my burger!’
“And you were like, ‘Oh, you’re on the other end of that hand,'” Bryan added.
“Yeah I did,” Perry responded.
“In-N-Out creates true love,” Jones said, to which Perry replied, “It really does!”

Bloom popped the question on Feb. 14 and one day later, Perry revealed the news of her engagement by posting a close-up image of the pair surrounded by numerous heart-shaped balloons, while showing off her diamond engagement ring, which features a colorful jewel in the center.
“Full bloom,” she sweetly captioned the image, using a play on her husband-to-be’s name.

A source told PEOPLE that although Perry may have been surprised by the proposal, the couple’s decision to take their relationship to the next level wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment choice.
“They’ve been talking about getting engaged for a while. After reconciling Katy has felt very secure with Orlando and they both knew it was different this time,” the source said. “They made their relationship a priority and both of them literally flew all around the world to keep their relationship strong.”
American Idol returns Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. The cross-country audition tour will move forward with an all-new episode on Wednesday, March 6 at 8 p.m. then will continue every Sunday, with five additional Monday night episodes starting March 18.
