Katy Perry very nearly showed it all on the April 15 episode of American Idol. As one Top 14 hopeful was performing, Katy’s top appeared to come loose in the back, causing her to take shelter under the desk.

“That song broke my top off!” she told contestant Roman Collins. That same night, Katy posted a video to Instagram showing crew members trying to keep her top secure while she sat patiently.

“I need my top to stay on,” she said, giving concerned looks to the camera. “If it’s not fixed, this show is gonna get more than it wanted.” She reflected on the whole ordeal after the fact and gave some extra life and career updates.

Katy talks wardrobe malfunction, Met Gala, and next album

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Katy discussed her recent wardrobe malfunction. Although, in her words, “I wouldn’t call it a malfunction. I just call it like, an interesting moment on live television. Seems like every season, I’m either tearing the seam of my pants, or – I’m just super expressive physically.”

She continued, “I love this outfit so much and I knew I was rolling the dice. But I was like, who cares?” The interviewer then asked about the dress. “This is a designer named I believe Kate Barton. And [I’m] just loving this kind of future fashion – future alpha divine,” she laughed.

As to whether Katy would be attending the Met Gala, she said, “I don’t want to go unless I am topping the looks, you know what I’m saying? So, we’ll see.” Then, regarding Katy’s next album, she teased, “I have yet to make a record from a place of feeling really happy and whole and full of love.”

“And sometimes, artists are like, ‘Oh, that’s like, boring. You want to make music from kind of like a tougher place.’ But actually, it’s very bright and joyful. Like, pure joy and fun and playful and celebratory and a party.”

American Idol continues Sundays and Mondays on ABC.
