Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom Have a 'Big Engagement Party' Planned but No Wedding Plans Yet: Source

It hasn’t even been a week since Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom‘s surprise Valentine’s Day engagement, so fans will understand if the pair haven’t figured out their wedding plans just yet.

A source close to Bloom tells PEOPLE that he and his wife-to-be are still basking in the joy of their recent relationship milestone — and that the only planning they are doing now involves a way to honor that.

“They are still busy enjoying and celebrating their engagement,” the insider explained. “They haven’t shared any wedding details yet. They are planning a big engagement party for all of their friends.”

“It will be very special,” the source said of the couple’s plans. “They are both so happy and excited to be engaged.”

The Bloom source also shared details of the actor’s proposal to Perry.

“Orlando had planned this for a while,” the insider said. “He wanted it all to be special.”

The actor, 42, even went the old-fashioned route and sought her parents’ permission before popping the question to the singer. “Katy’s family knew he was proposing. He talked to her parents about it before,” the source continued.

Even with all the advance planning, Perry, 34, apparently had no idea the proposal was imminent. “Katy was very surprised and shaking with happiness,” the insider told PEOPLE.

Perry shared her first photo with her now-fiancé on Friday, posting a close-up image of the pair surrounded by numerous heart-shaped balloons, while showing off her unique flower-shaped diamond ring, which features a colorful jewel in the center

“Full bloom,” she sweetly captioned the image, using a play on her husband-to-be’s name.

Bloom went on to share the same image on his own Instagram, captioning the adorable snap, “Lifetimes.”

Earlier on Friday, a second source revealed that although Perry may have been surprised, the couple’s decision to take their relationship to the next level wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment choice.

“They’ve been talking about getting engaged for a while. After reconciling Katy has felt very secure with Orlando and they both knew it was different this time,” the source said. “They made their relationship a priority and both of them literally flew all around the world to keep their relationship strong.”

“She was in such a bad place after her split from Russell [Brand], so to be getting married again is a huge deal. Their friends and family are so happy and excited for them,” the insider added, referencing Perry’s ex-husband, whom she split from in 2011.

“They are such a great couple,” the Bloom source continued. “They really took their time to figure out if they could work as a couple. They really wanted to from the beginning, but things are not always easy. They are both proud of how far they have come. Everyone is super excited about the engagement.”
