A Birthday Celebration

Katy Perry recently went to Egypt with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, and a group of their friends to celebrate her 35th birthday. She posted a picture of herself standing in front the pyramids and a message about her trip.

"Ancient Egyptians believed that when you pass on your heart had to be weighed. If had to be lighter than a feather to be qualified for the trip to the afterlife. My mother has called me feather since I was a little girl and I hope after all is said and done my heart is as light as one. This is 35."

Not only that, but she posted a picture with Bloom, a rarity for the notoriously private couple.

Building A Life Together

Bloom also posted a pensive picture in front of the pyramid and a cute couples picture to his Instagram account. The couple is expected to wed in December, wrapping up 2019 with wedded bliss. This is the second marriage for both of them (he was previously married to model Miranda Kerr and she was married to comedian Russell Brand), and the knowledge that comes with age and experience is definitely coloring their approach to getting married this time around.

Bloom told Willie Geist on on Sunday Today that they're taking matrimony very seriously.

"It’s important to me that we are aligned — I’ve been married and divorced and I don’t want to do it again. And we’re both fully aware of that. She’s remarkable and so I’m always so impressed with that and I’m encouraged."

Preparing For Their Wedding

Bloom continued, explaining that they were dedicated to growing together as a couple.

"She loves a big moment. I’m still trying to get her to wrestle into the small moments. The cool thing about what we’re doing — we’re learning to do the small together. I think we’re both fully aware that it’s a mountain to climb and that that mountain won’t stop, in terms of a relationship, because I think that’s what it is. And I love to evolve and fortunately, she does too.

You have to do the groundwork together, create the feeling of trust and safety so that you can spend time apart and do everything that you need to do and still feel tethered to that person, so that you can go on a journey together."

They Have The Right Idea About Marriage

Perry expressed a similar approach to their relationship in July when she gave an interview on KIIS1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

"I think we’re doing really great, and we’re really doing the hard work and laying a beautiful foundation before we start to build a monster house, metaphorically.

I’m saying [monster house] like, emotionally. It’s important for us to really do the work before we go and take this really big next step because we were both married before, and it’s not the same in your 30s, you know."
