Katy Perry is no stranger to a wardrobe malfunction (she is a pop star, after all), so when her top broke on the latest episode of American Idol, she was more than prepared to handle it like a champ while the cameras rolled.

"I need my top to stay on,” Perry said in a video posted to her social media, prompting a team of hands to attempt to put her silver sculptural Kate Baron top back together. “If it’s not fixed, this show is going to get more than it wanted,” she added before fellow judge Luke Bryan stepped in with an (unsuccessful) attempt to repair it with a pair of pliers before giving up and saying, "nevermind."

The show still needed to go on — despite the malfunction, Perry gave hopeful contestant Roman Collins a critique on his performance of “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by James Brown while hiding beneath the table to cover up her chest, later coming back up with a pillow to cover the area to prevent any slippage. She jokingly told the singer that she “broke my top off… I guess it is a woman’s world!”

Bryan and Lionel Richie quipped, “Ratings!” and an embarrassed Perry responded, “It’s a family show.”

On Access Hollywood, Perry explained, “I wouldn’t call it a malfunction; I just call it an interesting moment on live television. Seems like every season, I’m either tearing the seam of my pants, or I’m just super expressive physically. I love this outfit so much, and I knew I was rolling the dice, but I was like, ‘Who cares?'”
