Old habits die hard, but there’s always hope. Perfect example? Katy Perry admits Orlando Bloom’s son matured her — a fact that surprises no one more than it does the pop star. Perry spilled details about her relationship with her future stepson on Wednesday’s episode of the Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing that 8-year-old Flynn has changed her in unexpected (and, because it’s Perry, comical) ways.

Speaking about her engagement, Perry admitted her life has certainly benefited from having the Bloom men around. Calling her fiancé the “kindest man I’ve ever met,” she shared that Bloom encourages her “spiritually, emotionally and physically.” And that includes motivating her to be active. “I do not care to work out and he’s like, ‘Let’s go work out! Let’s go do hot yoga!'” Perry said. “So that’s kind of our love language, is all things spiritual and working out.”

But Perry admits that being around 8-year-old Flynn means she’s had to make certain concessions. “We have to be out the door at 7:30 to be there at 8:15 and we cannot be late,” she told DeGeneres, likely referring to school drop-off. “I used to not wake up until, like, 11 a.m. and now I’m in bed like a normal person at 10 p.m., just, like, falling asleep. I guess this has definitely matured me.”

She continued, pretending to cringe, “I guess this is adulting! That’s why I still dress like a child, to fight against!” It’s pretty clear, though, that Perry doesn’t really mind being a little more mature if it means having Flynn and his father in her life — and the feelings, at least on Bloom’s part, seem to be mutual.

The Carnival Row actor often gushes about his future wife in interviews. In August, he opened up to the Today show about their relationship. And, hey, he insists Perry isn’t the only one still maturing.

“The cool thing about what we’re doing — we’re learning to do the small together,” he told Today. “I think we’re both fully aware that it’s a mountain to climb and that the mountain won’t stop, in terms of a relationship, because I think that’s what it is. And I love to evolve and fortunately, she does too.”
