Katie Couric learned that she’s a 'granny to be' thanks to a Taylor Swift friendship bracelet

The "Today" anchor is entering her grandma era.
Katie Couric learned she was going to be a grandmother with a little help from Taylor Swift.
The former Today host received a big surprise in August, ahead of attending an Eras Tour concert with her daughters, Ellie and Caroline Monahan. In a video shared on Instagram, the duo delivered some big news through rather unexpected means.
"Been dying to tell you,” Couric captioned the post. “This is what happens when you go to a @taylorswift concert last summer and forget your friendship bracelet and your daughters say, 'Don’t worry, we made one for you!'”
In the clip, Couric and her daughters participate in the time honored Swiftie tradition of wearing friendship bracelets. But when they hand Couric her concert accessory, it spells out something a little bigger than a niche Taylor reference.

Katie CouricIt takes Couric a moment to figure out what she’s seeing, fumbling the words to say, “Brand, brandy, B, granny,” before she eventually reads aloud, "Granny to be." Though Couric initially laughs it off, her expression shifts to disbelief as she looks around.
Ellie Monahan then interjects with the big announcement: "I'm pregnant!"
"You are?" Couric asks, shocked. “Wow.”
"Are you freaked out?" Monahan replies, to which Couric says “No,” and stands to congratulate her daughter.
This will be the first child for Monahan and husband Mark Dobrosky, who wed in 2021. Though the reveal dates back to several months ago, Couric has kept mum about her daughter’s big news.
The 66-year-old journalist was amongst the many celebrities spotted at the concert event of the summer when she attended a SoFi Stadium show with her daughters. She later shared pictures of the trio on Instagram, along with video highlights from the concert.
“All I can say is WOW,” Couric wrote in August. “@taylorswift defies superlatives. But let me try. She’s a brilliant singer-songwriter and mesmerizing performer. Oh, and did I mention she is indefatigable? I hope you enjoy watching some of the highlights This was a once in a lifetime experience I’m so glad I got to share with my girls who each have a PhD in Swiftology. They know every word to every song and every designer Taylor was wearing. We felt so lucky to experience this together.”
