Kathy Griffin taunts Megyn Kelly over infamous 'Santa just is white' remark

‘Tis the season for laughter, joy and revisiting Megyn Kelly’s assertion that “Santa just is white.”A photo of Barack Obama channeling Santa Claus went viral Thursday, showing the former president looking like Kris Kringle at a children’s hospital in Washington, D.C., wearing a Santa hat and with a big bag of presents thrown over his shoulder. Well, Kathy Griffin saw the photo as an opportunity to throw some shade on Twitter in the direction of the ousted host of Megyn Kelly Today.

The reference was to Megyn Kelly’s infamous declaration while she was at Fox News that Santa is white. In 2013, Kelly took issue with a Slate piece titled Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore.

“When I saw this headline, I kind of laughed, and I said, ‘This is so ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it’s racist to have a white Santa,’” Kelly said five years ago. “And by the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white. But this person is arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is and just so you know, we’re just debating this because someone wrote about it, kids.”

“Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn’t mean it has to change,” Kelly added later. “Jesus was a white man, too. … He was a historical figure, that’s a verifiable fact, as is Santa. I just want the kids watching to know that.”

In 2017, Kelly was confronted with the old clip at Business Insider’s IGNITION conference and the television personality admitted she regrets “a lot of what I’ve said,” without specifically calling out Santagate and her contention that Santa Claus is a real person.

“I mean you’re going to be on the air several hours a week, live television, you’re going to say stupid s***. That’s just the reality, you know, so yeah there’s a lot I’d like to go back and say differently,” Kelly continued.

Kelly has yet to respond to Griffin’s dig.
