Kathy Griffin says she’s pro-government because the FBI saved her life

Kathy Griffin visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her Fathom Events film Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story. The film looks at the events that transpired after Griffin did a photoshoot which depicted the comedian holding President Donald Trump’s severed head.

The photos not only made headlines but also resulted in an investigation into Griffin by the Secret Service.

“They were considering very seriously charging me with the crime of conspiracy to assassinate the president of the United States,” she said.

The comedian said the photo also led some Trump supporters to believe she was a member of ISIS. When Kimmel asked who thought she was a member of ISIS, Griffin responded, “My mother! She wanted me to join a different club, as she said, because she watches Fox News and she thought it was real.”

Despite the jokes, Griffin, along with other celebrities and news outlets were in fact targeted by an overzealous Trump supporter known as the “MAGA Bomber.” The FBI identified Cesar Sayoc as the man who mailed bombs and threatened many of the people Trump debases on a regular basis.

Of the FBI, Griffin said, “They said during the interrogation of the MAGA Bomber, he had shared the kill list with like-minded people.” She went on to say, “I will say this, I am not anti-government at all after this experience. I think the FBI saved my life.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
