Kathie Lee Gifford Recalls the Moment She Met Frank Gifford: ‘That's What’s Called a God Wink’

Kathie Lee Gifford is reminiscing on the serendipitous moment she met her late husband, Frank Gifford.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive first look at a clip from Peacock’s Holiday Steals and Deals with Jill Martin on TODAY All Day, Gifford opened up about her first encounter with Frank after she was asked about whether she is currently dating.

“When people ask me ‘Are you looking for love?’ my attitude has got to be, well I'm not actively looking for it,” she said. “I can’t go on websites and dating apps and all that kind of stuff, having lived my life the way way I've lived it my whole life.”

The former Today host, 67, then recalled the physical attribute of the formal NFL player that first caught her eye.

“I met Frank Gifford because it was 4 o'clock in the morning at Good Morning America, walking down one of the hallways and I looked over at somebody in the dressing room — the best set of buns I've ever seen in my life — just leaned over a sink putting in contact lenses,” she said.

“I had just had a precursor to Lasik done on my eyes months before and I yelled out, ‘Have I got an operation for you!’” Gifford continued. “To which the body that the buns belonged to retorted, ‘Yeah, with the fool on either end.’”

Frank died in August 2015 at age 84. Over the course of their nearly 30-year marriage, Gifford and Frank welcomed two children: Cody, 29, and Cassidy, 25.

Gifford said that her and Frank's meeting was fate, calling the moment a “God wink” and adding that she has approached the rest of her life with that kind of authenticity in mind.

“Years later, after 30 years of marriage that's what’s called a God wink, that's when the divine and the human intersect,” she shared. “I was supposed to be in that hallway that day, he was supposed to be in that room putting in contact lenses.”

“We were supposed to meet and I'd rather anything that happens in the rest of my life to be organic and authentic that way too,” Gifford concluded.
