Katherine Langford stars in outrageous new movie that sees students literally exploding
Spontaneous, an upcoming teen movie starring 13 Reasons Why's Katherine Langford, has released its first trailer – and, well, it looks brilliantly absurd.
Based on the YA novel of the same name by Aaron Starmer, the dark comedy centres on Mara Carlyle, who embarks on a whirlwind romance with a boy named Dylan just as a mysterious, high school-wide pandemic starts causing students to, quite literally, explode.

Langford, who has appeared in titles such as Knives Out, Love, Simon and Netflix's Cursed, will play the protagonist, while All the Money in the World's Charlie Plummer portrays Mara's love interest. Riverdale's Hayley Law, Rob Huebel (Transparent) and Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) also feature.
Brian Duffield, who fairly recently penned the screenplays for horror-comedy hit The Babysitter and Kristen Stewart-led monster movie Underwater, writes and directs.
"Caitlin was cute... airy... hardly a reason to pop like a zit," Mara explains to the audience at one point in the zany teaser, as her friend freaks out and demands to know why all of her classmates are suddenly covered in blood.

"Caitlin exploded," she replies, as Tess snaps back: "What? Like a bomb?!"
"No... Like a balloon?" Mara says.
As expected, Caitlin isn't the only one blowing up instead of growing up, as later on in the promo, other students can be seen combusting in the halls, at parties and even in a sleeping bag.
With incidences becoming more and more frequent, the school is forced to close down, while Mara and Dylan get taken to a medical testing facility where they continue to fall for one another – and do cutesy ET impressions to one another through see-through protective screens while they're at it too.
Yeah, this one is going to be unique.
Spontaneous is currently aiming for a limited cinema release from October 2, and is expected to land on streaming platforms four days later.
