Peg Bundy

It's the role that made Sagal famous and helped launch her acting career.

In 1987, Sagal was hired to play Peg Bundy on the Fox sitcom Married...with Children.

With her iconic red beehive, spandex pants, and high heels; Peg Bundy would become one of the most beloved characters in television history.

As the wife of shoe salesman Al Bundy, Peg constantly craved attention from her husband. While Al often viewed himself as man of the house, Peg showed she was a force to be reckoned with as one joke often sent Al cowering.

For 11 seasons, fans watched as Peg performed her regular duties as a lazy housewife, while also getting into trouble with the rest of the Bundy family.

Leela

After the end of Married...with Children, Sagal's next job had her doing voiceover work.

In 1999, she signed on to play the role of Leela on Fox's animated series Futurama.

Leela was the tough as nails captain of the delivery ship Planet Express. Leela tried to be nice, but often she had to act as a disciplinarian when it came to her co-workers Fry and Bender.

Throughout the series, Leela and Fry's growing relationship was a recurring theme with fans wanting the pair to be together.

Sagal played Leela from 1999 until the show's cancellation in 2003. She then reprised her role when the series was picked up by Comedy Central in 2008.

Gemma Teller Morrow

For her next role, Sagal made the switch from comedy to drama.

From 2008 to 2014, Sagal played the role of Gemma Teller Morrow on the FX series Sons of Anarchy.

The series was created by Sagal's husband Kurt Sutter, and Katey's role was a departure from her previous ones.

Playing a villain, Sagal's character Gemma was protective of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club. Throughout the series, she often clashes with her son Jax, played by Charlie Hunnam.

The show and Sagal's character became a hit with fans. In 2011, she won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series.

Cate Hennessy

In 2002, Sagal signed on to play Cate Hennessy, the wife of John Ritter on the ABC sitcom 8 Simple Rules.

The show became an instant success and was renewed for another season. However, tragedy struck during the show's second season when Ritter died of a heart attack.

After a brief hiatus, the producers decided to continue on with the show. Sagal's character Cate now had to face life as a widow after the death of her husband Paul.

Katey's performance had viewers tearing up as she dealt with the loss of her husband, while trying to raise three children on her own.

The show ran for two more seasons before being cancelled in 2005.
