Kate Upton Jokes Daughter Genevieve, 5, Has 'Better Style' Than Her and Husband Justin Verlander (Exclusive)

"That makes me so happy, because clothes are such a creative expression of yourself," she tells PEOPLE

Kate Upton has a fashionista on her hands!

Speaking with PEOPLE about being named one of the faces of Anne Klein's 2024 spring/summer campaign, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model revealed that her 5-year-old Genevieve may already have better taste than both her parents.

"She loves to get dressed with me. I think she has better style than Justin and I, so she picks out all her own clothes," Upton, 31, jokes.

"And that makes me so happy, because clothes are such a creative expression of yourself, and I love that she has found that even at her age."

Upton, who shares Genevieve with husband Justin Verlander, revealed that seeing her daughter come into her own has been "so much fun," adding that every year of her child's development so far has been her "favorite stage."

"She just is becoming more and more herself and I love it," Upton says. "I love hearing her opinions and seeing her set her own boundaries, and she's really excited about her independence in certain things, obviously within the safety of her parents, but I love watching her push her independence and find her own voice."

The MLB star, 41, and Upton welcomed their only child three days after celebrating their first wedding anniversary in November 2018. Since then, the trio have dressed up for Halloween, celebrated major career milestones together and more.

Upton also opened up to PEOPLE about sticking to comfortable looks when she's on mom duty, adding that she's a "function [over fashion] girl for sure."

"Living in New York and being a mom, I need to not get the blisters and feel comfortable and confident,” she says. “When you feel confident in your clothes it shows.”

Named as a face of Anne Klein's latest campaign alongside model Kendra Bailey, Upton's latest gig aims to celebrate the the modern-day multi-hyphenated women through clothing. And as Upton shared, for her, it's "always meaningful to collaborate with a company that wants to do more for their legacy than just the business aspect and wants to also support women."

Shot by Anthony Mandler in Miami, written by Keli Goff, and narrated by Ilfenesh Hadera, the campaign highlights elevated yet wearable pieces, as previously noted.

“Every woman I know or am friends with is always pulled in different directions, whether it's in multiple children's lives or supporting their friends, themselves, husbands,” she said, adding that the brand "builds a closet for busy women.”
