Kate Middleton Takes on 'Quiet Luxury' Trend with Knit Co-Ord That's Already Sold Out!

The oatmeal skirt and matching top outfit by French brand Sézane is selling fast for a reason

Kate Middleton is mixing up her power suits!

To meet students at Nottingham Trent University on Wednesday, Kate steered away from her month-long repeat of ‘business-like’ pantsuits and opted for coordinating separates with a chic matching midi-skirt and sweater.

The pared-back, luxe look by French label Sézane featured both the silhouette-skimming Naelle skirt and the matching long-sleeved Sami jumper, in an oatmeal-colored merino wool, cotton blend. The simple but polished outfit complimented with gold and pearl earrings and suede high heels had more than a hint of “quiet luxury” about it.

The term, coined around the same time as season four of Succession describes a look that denotes wealth in terms of luxury fabrics and well-tailored lines but without any brash and obvious logos. The look, personified by the character Shiv Roy, in the HBO Max drama saw her command the screen in tailored suits, cashmere turtlenecks and knitted dresses in shades of camel, grey, beige and black.

While Kate has always favored classic looks, she has certainly been fine-turning her closet in recent months. In January earlier this year, she wore a similar co-ord look to visit a kindergarten in Luton. Wearing a Gabriella Hearst cashmere knitted turtleneck and matching midi-skirt in burnt orange, she teamed it with a floor-length coat by Massimo Dutti and brown boots. During the same month she also wore a cream dress by Victoria Beckham with similar clean lines and detailing.

The royal visit to Nottingham is part of a three-day schedule of events taken on by Kate and Prince William to mark World Mental Health Day on Tuesday. While at the university the mom of three took part in a Freshers Fayre exhibition and participated in a “step in circle” which aims to encourage students to share experiences, build confidence and raise awareness of the range of support networks available to them.

While Kate’s cream $145 Sézane sweater, which features tortoiseshell buttons on the sleeves, is completely sold out in all sizes, the French brand also stocks it in Breton stripes, black, navy and two shades of green. The matching skirt is available in the same colors, and purple too.

Although for true “quiet luxury” vibes, neutral tones are the way forward. In a twist to her Succession-style outfit, Kate wore faux pearl earrings by Simone Rocha, rather than the real deal.
