Kate Middleton Shares the Song She Overheard Princess Charlotte Singing: ‘It Made Me Very Happy’

The Princess of Wales shared how Charlotte brightened her morning with a young Ukrainian refugee

Kate Middleton says Princess Charlotte started the morning on a sweet note at their home!

On Wednesday, the Princess of Wales, 41, visited the Vsi Razom Community Hub in Bracknell to learn more about the organization’s work to support Ukrainian refugees who relocated to the area amid the Russian invasion. While chatting with an 8-year-old girl named Liza, Princess Kate said that her only daughter Charlotte — who is also 8 — brightened her morning with a song.

“I heard my daughter singing this morning and it’s a song called ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ and that made me very happy this morning,” Princess Kate told Liza in video shared to X by Rebecca English of the Daily Mail.

Her comment caused Liza to exclaim, and Kate replied, "Do you know that song? Does it have the same tune? I heard that this morning and it made me very happy this morning.”

Princess Kate — who is known for her warm way with kids — used a signature move and squatted to chat with Liza at eye level, and asked the little girl about her favorite song and who she was at the center with to get to know her better. In a cute connection, Liza stood directly in front of Kate for a group photo.

The Vsi Razom Community Hub is not far from Princess Kate and Prince William’s home in Windsor, where they live with Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, 5. Kate paid a visit for the first anniversary of the Hub, which was established by two local women to help Ukrainian people settle in Bracknell Forest. “Vsi Razom” is Ukrainian for “all together.” Kate pitched in at the center to pack parcels of food and clothes that will be shipped to Ukraine for families directly affected by the ongoing conflict, which began in February 2022.

The Princess of Wales also met the Hub’s psychologist who visits those who are adjusting to life in their new home once a week for mental health support.

Though the British royals traditionally avoid voicing political opinions, the family has shared support for Ukraine amid the ongoing invasion. Her community center visit on Wednesday is part of a series of events that Kate and William have undertaken to show their solidarity with the Eastern European country.

In September 2022, Kate held a special audience with Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska at Buckingham Palace, who traveled to the U.K. to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral. In March, Prince William made a surprise trip to Poland to thank the people for their "humanity and hospitality" during the ongoing crisis in neighboring Ukraine.

Last spring, the Prince and Princess of Wales also made a unannounced visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London that month to hear about the efforts being made to support Ukrainians in the U.K. and across Europe.

During the stop, William spoke about how his three kids had asked him questions about the conflict.

While chatting with members of the Ukrainian community and volunteers in March 2022, Prince William shared that the couple's three children are aware of the situation.

"Ours have been coming home asking all about it," William said in conversation with members of the Ukranian community and volunteers, according to Rebecca English. "They are obviously talking about it with their friends at school."

Like many parents, the Prince of Wales said he had to "choose my words carefully to explain what is going on."
