Whenever you see Prince Louis’s name involved, you can pretty much guarantee the story will bring a smile to your face. Today’s update was no exception, with Kate Middleton sharing that Prince Louis loves smelling flowers at her new Wisley Garden. Kate was touring her latest “Back to Nature” garden when she shared these details about how 1-year-old Louis likes to spend his time outdoors, and bonded with some of the other young kids present.

Kate was touring with various families who had benefited from charities the Duchess of Cambridge supports. One of these families, the Griffiths, caught up with Kate on the tour. Sarah Griffiths describes an exchange between Kate and her daughter Matilda: “She was telling us how her son Louis loves smelling flowers. He enjoys being outside.” Kate then shared a sweet moment with Matilda herself: “Do you like the music?” she reportedly asked.

Kate’s “Back to Nature” campaign promotes the importance of children playing outdoors and interacting with nature from a young age. The design at RHS Wisley is her third garden, and Kate gave a short speech to commemorate the moment: “I am not as green-fingered as many of you here, but I was passionate about creating a garden that inspired children and adults alike to get back to nature and reap the positive mental and physical health benefits that it can bring,” she said. “Whether it is planting, exploring, digging, creating, or playing; quality time spent outside provides children with the perfect environment to form those positive relationships with the people in their lives and the world around them.”

Kate also celebrated the new garden’s opening by posting to Instagram, sharing a series of photos of children enjoying the treehouses, swings, and trampolines included in the garden. The Duchess is clearly at home around young kids, a dynamic we’ve seen countless times both with her own children and those she encounters on royal visits. We only wish we’d gotten a pic of Prince Louis face-first in some flowers too.
