The Princess of Wales learned something new for kids while sitting around a campfire at a forest school

Kate Middleton and Prince William just discovered something new to try with Prince GeorgePrincess Charlotte and Prince Louis during their outdoor adventures.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 41, visited Madley Primary School's forest school on Thursday, finding out about the program to help students learn while spending time outside.

While sitting around the campfire, the schoolchildren snacked on apples covered in cinnamon and sugar that they held over the flames.

"It's like a healthy marshmallow," Kate said, according to Hello! magazine. "It always tastes so much better whenever you cook something on the fire. I've seen 1,000 marshmallows around the fire, but I've never seen a sugar-dipped apple."

Impressed by the snack, she told them, "I'm going to try this with my kids."

Prince William added that the treats smelled "delicious."

It's no secret that Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, spend lots of time outside with their parents. Kate previously said in a 2020 interview on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast that she is happiest when "I'm with my family outside in the countryside, and we're all filthy dirty."

The Prince and Princess of Wales' kids are definitely experienced with marshmallows too. At a volunteering event during King Charles' coronation weekend earlier this year, all three children snacked on s'mores while visiting a scout group. In a viral moment, Princess Charlotte was spotted dropping a piece of the graham cracker, chocolate and marshmallow treat on the ground before grabbing the piece off the grass and popping it in her mouth.

On Thursday, Prince William and Princess Kate also joined the children in skimming bark off logs and sawing some lumber for a tree den — and Kate even popped inside for a look!

According to the school's website, "Forest school is a fully integrated part of our curriculum and is accessible to all year groups, not just building dens but finding out about ecology, experiencing writing in the woods, construction from natural materials, using equipment safely, using knives correctly and enjoying a stimulating environment."

The couple have been longtime advocates of the benefits of both playing and learning outdoors.

When Princess Kate and Prince William visited Norway in 2018, they spent time with kindergarten kids who are regularly taught outside in sub-zero temperatures.

In 2019, Kate helped design a “Back to the Nature” garden for the Chelsea Flower Show in London. The outdoor space was created with help from the Royal Horticultural Society and designers Andrée Davies and Adam White to highlight the benefits of playing outdoors. The garden — which included a treehouse, swing and hollowed-out tree trunk that is used as a play tunnel — got rave reviews from George, Charlotte and Louis.
