Kate Middleton has been on maternity leave since giving birth to her third child, Prince Louis in April of this year. But that doesn't mean the Duchess of Cambridge is working.

She's been selective about the official royal engagements she chooses to attend, like Harry and Meghan's wedding in May and Trooping the Colour in June. Most of the events she's opted into have been family affairs (Trooping the Colour is the Queen's birthday celebration).

But it looks like Kate Middleton is slowly easing back into more official royal duties, as she recently attended a secret royal meeting with her husband, Prince William.

After ten years, Prince William's private secretary Miguel Head is stepping down from his post, and Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance to bid the senior advisor a formal farewell.

Per ELLE UK, the Court Circular-the royals' archives of official engagements-reported that, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this afternoon received Mr. Miguel Head upon relinquishing his appointment as Private Secretary to His Royal Highness." The meeting was held in private, and was attended solely by Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Miguel Head.

The position of Prince William's private secretary has since been filled by civil servant Simon Case, and news of Kate's attendance at the private engagement signal that the Duchess is likely nearing the end of her maternity leave, transitioning back into official royal business affairs.

Royal biographer Duncan Larcombe reported to Harpers Bazaarearlier this year that a royals' maternity leave is typically for a set six-month period, which means Kate Middleton's will be up this October.

"It is traditional for new royal mums to take a six-month break from official engagements," Larcombe told the outlet. "The wedding doesn't count because it was a 'family affair' but other than that, she will pick and choose her engagements. If she wanted, Kate could disappear into the background until October!"
