Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson & Co. Claim to Have 'Solved It' in the Emmys Opening Number
Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson, both nominated for awards tonight, opened the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards with a rousing musical number that celebrated the awards show's diverse lineup of nominees.
Joining the musical performance were Tituss Burgess, Kristen Bell, Ricky Martin, RuPaul, recent EGOT winner John Legend, and Sterling K. Brown-who apparently also sings? And, of course, the token straight white guy: Andy Samberg, who was quickly banished from the stage after his entrance.
"We Solved It" was, of course, tongue in cheek, as one year's worth of diverse nominees barely makes up for decades-seven of them-of notably not-diverse television.
