Will & Kate, Harry & Meghan set to reunite, will step out together for Remembrance Day

In the wake of bad press over purported "rifts," the royal family will gather this week for solemn memorial ceremonies and all eyes will be on the "reunion" of allegedly warring Prince William and Duchess Kate of Cambridge and Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan of Sussex.

Do not expect fireworks unless you count the lights on the media cameras.

Nevertheless, beady eyes will be trained on them: Are they standing together? Talking to each other? Looking at ease and smiling, or stiff and unhappy? Inquiring royal fans will want to know.

November is Remembrance month in Britain, when everyone wears a paper red poppy on their lapel and the royals, led by Queen Elizabeth II, preside over ceremonies to honor Britain's war dead, especially Remembrance Sunday on Nov. 10.

There will be two opportunities to see the young princes and their wives together again: on Saturday night when they attend the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall, and on Sunday morning when they attend the annual Remembrance Day Service at The Cenotaph in London.

In addition, on Thursday morning the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the 91st Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, when hundreds of poppy-adorned crosses are planted on the grounds.

This was Harry's seventh time at the annual ceremony, and the first time for Meghan. (Harry's stepmother, Duchess Camilla of Cornwall, who is patron of the Poppy Factory that organizes the event, was supposed to attend with them but cancelled due to illness.)

Meghan wore a midnight blue alpaca coat by Sentaler, black knee-high boots and a dark blue Philip Treacy hat.

There are regular occasions during the year when most members of the royal family, including the young royals, come together: The most recent this year was the annual Trooping the Colour parade in June which culminates in an all-hands gathering on the Buckingham Palace balcony to wave at cheering crowds.

In March, the Fab Four were all smiles, with not a hint of their supposed feud showing as they gathered with the queen and royal family for the annual Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey.

And royal fans will recall that all four looked happy together last year in November in Westminster Abbey, about six months after Harry and Meghan's wedding, for a service marking the centenary of the end of World War I.

Of all the symbolically freighted duties carried out by the family, Remembrance is one of the most important of the year. It's no time for whining over personal grievances –especially not in public – when paying tribute to the millions lost in World War I, World War II and the rest of the United Kingdom's conflicts.

Few understand this better than William and Harry, both former members of Britain's armed forces and both long schooled in the practice of putting on a serene face in public no matter what.

After eight years of marriage (and eight more together before their 2011 wedding), the former Kate Middleton, a future queen, has proved to be adept at this, too. And the former Meghan Markle, who made her living as a TV actress, is not given to public pouting either.

But carrying on as usual might be slightly more difficult for the couples after months of media coverage about alleged feuding among them. First, it was supposed to be Meghan, 38, and Kate, 37, who were at odds.

Then the tabloids pivoted: No, it was Will, 37, and Harry, 35, who had a falling out over whether Will was sufficiently supportive of Harry's choice of an outspoken American three years his senior for his bride.

Now it appears tales of the "breakup" of the royals may have been exaggerated. Yes, Harry said in a revealing interview with ITV last month, he and Will are "certainly on different paths at the moment."

“But, look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers," Harry said, acknowledging the difficulty of the job of being a royal. "I’ll always be there for him and, as I know, he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly.”

On the other hand, Harry and Meghan have been taking a media shellacking recently: They've been criticized as too secretive about their 6-months-old baby, Archie, and mocked as "eco-hypocrites" for taking private jets while scolding about climate change.

And now they're being panned by some for announcing last month (at the end of their successful tour of southern Africa) two lawsuits against three tabloids, claiming copyright infringement, invasion of privacy and phone-hacking.

Other members of the royal family are reported to be concerned about Harry and Meghan's current state of mind, after they spilled tea in their ITV interviews about their unhappiness living under what they view as relentless and "malicious" media scrutiny.

But will any of this be discernible on royal faces when they come together to mark Remembrance Sunday?

Don't count on it.
