The annual walk to Sandringham on Christmas morning is something royal watchers and fans look forward to with excitement.

Of course, this year, with all the scandals the royal family has been through, we all waited with bated breath to see what the mood would be.

Would Prince Andrew actually turn up? Would his daughters be smiling? And, what about the Cambridges? Would they try to take the spotlight, now that Harry and Meghan aren't attending?

We could assume so, being that "Brand Cambridge" has been on an upward slope this year.

Despite all the criticism and scandals their family members have been facing this year, the Cambridges have seen something of a reinvention this year. They've gone from slightly stuffy and boring, to prove they can lead the monarchy in the future.

A source told the Daily Mail, "They are in a very healthy place both personally and professionally and are really coming to terms with their role. They are working harder than ever before and juggling an even bigger family, but have tried hard to find a successful balance between their work and home life."

They continued, "This balance is vital as the couple embark on the next step of their royal journey, preparing to become the future Prince and Princess of Wales."

Princess Charlotte Stole The Show

This year, the walk to Sandringham put The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children, Princess Charlotte and Prince George firmly front and center.

The public fell in love with little Charlotte as she was seen curtsying to the Queen (or 'gan gan' as they call her) and she stayed by her mother's side to greet fans lined up to see the family and perhaps get a lucky photo.

Twitter exploded with praise for the princess about how polite and well-mannered she was by showing respect to her great-grandmother, the Queen.

This Year Has Seen Prince William Step Further Into His Role

Prince William has proved himself to be a major decision-maker behind the scenes recently, as it was reported he was consulted about what to do when it came to Prince Andrew/Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

The Cambridge Christmas card this year showed a confident William with his supportive wife standing next to him, and a happy family.

Rebecca English, in an article for the Daily Mail, wrote, "Compared with the rather showy, celebrity-obsessed lifestyles of some of their nearest and perhaps not so dearest, William and Kate’s brand of unabashed ‘middle-classness’ is being seen as a royal USP — unique selling point —not a label of derision."

This year has seen rumors of a rift between Prince William and his brother Prince Harry, something neither of them has tried to deny.

While Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have faced massive criticism this year, the Cambridges have been praised for how they've handled themselves.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly staying in a luxury hotel on Vancouver Island.

Locals have seen them hiking and jogging in various towns throughout the area; and it's also been claimed Meghan's mother Doria Ragland is staying with them.

Will Brand Cambridge stay firmly at the top next year or will we see a reinvention from the Sussexes that puts them front and center?
