Kate Bush has seen a massive chart boost thanks to Stranger Things featuring her 1985 hit 'Running Up That Hill'.

The song features prominently in the Netflix show's recently released fourth season, particularly in relation to the character Max played by Sadie Sink.

'Running Up That Hill' was the first single off Bush’s album Hounds of Love that would go on and become her biggest hit of the era. The track was originally titled 'A Deal With God' but was changed by her label for fear that it would be blacklisted in religious countries.

Other artists have also benefitted from Stranger Things using their music. Following its use of the theme song to the hit fantasy film The NeverEnding Story by Limahl last season, YouTube said that searches for the music video spiked 800 per cent shortly after new episodes were released to Netflix.

Since the premiere of the new episodes, 'Running Up That Hill' has been embraced on TikTok and entered Spotify's top 50 trending tracks.

One of Bush's biggest hits, it reached number three in the UK singles chart and also proved to be her breakthrough in the US where it entered the top 30.

At the Stranger Things premiere, Winona Ryder wore a pin paying tribute to Bush and later raved about her in an interview.

Talking to USA Today, Ryder said: "I’ve been obsessed with her since I was a little girl. I've also for the last seven years been dropping hints on set, wearing my Kate Bush T-shirts.

"I don't know if you did this, but in my school, you had to dress down for P.E., and sometimes I just wouldn't. I'd just sit there with my headphones listening to her. She's a hero of mine."

All four seasons of Stranger Things are currently available to stream on Netflix.
