We Know All About This

Kate Beckinsale says men and women aren't regarded in the same way when it comes to age -- which, tell us something we don't already know.

The British actress brought up the subject while speaking with Women's Health. She's had some experience with the issue -- earlier this year she sparked some controversy for dating "SNL" actor and young guy Pete Davidson. The two are decades apart in age -- when they were together, she was 45 and he was 25.

They're no longer dating, but the experience must have left an impression on her about how women are regarded versus men.

Guys Can Have Fun; Women Can't

Beckinsale noted that when a guy does something that's just generally fun, like being in a relationship or being adventurous, there's no judgement about his life choices. But when a woman does the same fun things, people start to ask why she's not pregnant for the fifth time:

"I witness men constantly doing whatever they like—whether that’s in relationships, or deciding to buy a motorbike, or getting a tattoo. It has not been interpreted as ‘Why hasn’t he had more children?’ or ‘Is he ever going to decide to become a parent?’ or ‘Why has he had so many girlfriends?’ ”

'A Bit Of a Political Act'

Beckinsale further elaborated on the well-documented double standard that occurs between men and women in basically all walks of life.

“It can feel like a little bit of a political act to be a woman over 32 who is having any fun at all. And by that, I don’t mean doing drugs and drinking and partying—because I never am—but being goofy, and going out, and not going, ‘Omigod, I’m going to sit home and anticipate menopause while crocheting.’ Unless you’re doing that, it somehow seems to be risqué, which is just ridiculous to me."

People Just Need To Chill

Beckinsale also told Women's Health, without referencing her past relationship with Davidson, that what she's doing in her life isn't call for anyone to get upset, especially when it's her life.

“If everyone’s shitting on you, it can make you kind of ugh for a minute—especially if there’s really nothing wrong. If you’re strangling a squirrel or hurting someone, I get it, but living one’s life in a reasonably respectful manner shouldn’t invite anyone to get too excited.”

Bend It Like Beckinsale

In unrelated news, Beckinsale also told Women's Health what workout routines serve her best, adding that getting exercise is a great mood-booster for her.

She's also well known for her flexibility. If you've seen the video of her with her trainer stretching her leg out like a Barbie, then you know what we're talking about.

In the video, her leg is basically going places it shouldn't. Beckinsale is smiling the whole time her body is being abnormally bent, so watching this video is an experience.
