Kat Von D is No Longer Involved With Her Makeup Brand 'In Any Capacity' But Why?

Kat Von D has built quite the empire off of her makeup brand Kat Von D Beauty. She's dealt with her fair share of controversy in the past, but this has never completely derailed the success of her prized vegan makeup. However, the brand released a statement on Jan. 16 saying that owner and founder Kat Von D would no longer be involved with the makeup in any capacity. In addition to this major change, it will also be renamed KVD Vegan Beauty.

Why Is She Stepping Down?

What makes a person walk away from such a huge and successful company? A company that they themselves created? Apparently, Von D is just too busy. "This past year has been one of great change for me," Von D expressed in a statement. "As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line, and am now busy prepping to release my long-awaited album in the spring, followed by an international tour. As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity."

Von D is Ready to Build More Empires

Von D has many other creative endeavors that she plans to dedicate her time to. There's only so much one person can do. Maybe it was best that she decided to sell her shares and hand over the control of her wildly successful makeup brand. However, she admitted that the decision to step down was a hard one to make. "This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, " she said in an Instagram post.

Controversy May Have Had Something to Do With It.

Everything official that we know so far seems to be free of foul play or hard feelings. But could controversy have anything to do with Von D's sudden decision to leave her makeup brand?

For the past couple of years, Von D has gotten herself in trouble with the public. When she had her son, news spread that she allegedly didn't plan on vaccinating him and people were not too happy. After an overwhelming number of critiques on social media, Von D doubled back and said that she would vaccinate him. Along with this, she's also been accused of being anti-Semitic because of her relationship with motorcycle enthusiast Jesse James, who was pictured in a Nazi hat.

So... Now Who's In Charge?

It could be that Von D is just trying to avoid running into the same old controversies that have become associated with her and her makeup brand. Maybe she's just "re-branding." But now who's going to run the show?

The brand's only owner is now Kendo, a beauty incubator associated with many large brands like Bite Beauty and Marc Jacobs Beauty. A press representative for the brand stated, "KVD Vegan Beauty is being led by the same people that built the global empire with Kat and helped create the products, programs, and events that you know and love." The brand will also remain vegan and keep the same products. Fans can rest assured knowing that Von D's departure will not impact the quality and magic of the brand and products that they so dearly love.
