Nominations have arrived for the 2022 Premios Juventud, Univision’s awards show for Spanish-language pop culture, with J Balvin and Karol G leading the list at 11 nods each. The Colombian singers are followed by Rauw Alejandro, who holds nine, and Farruko, with eight.

Karol, Balvin, Rauw, and Farruko overlap in three categories: favorite streaming artist, catchiest song, viral track of the year and the night’s biggest prize, album of the year. Also nominated for album of the year are Sebastian Yatra, Justin Quiles, Daddy Yankee, Rosalia, Camilo, and Natti Natasha.

The show has added 10 new categories this year: female artist on the rise, male artist on the rise, my favorite actor, my favorite actress, best on-screen couple, favorite streaming artist, best couple song (which recognizes songs made by a romantic duo), tropical hit, the best beatmakers, and best fandom.

This year’s Premios Juventud will air live on July 21 at 7 p.m. ET from the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

It’s an exciting time for Balvin, who, alongside Daddy Yankee, Becky G, and Kali Uchis, will headline the inaugural Viva! LA Music Festival, taking place at Dodger Stadium on June 25. Produced by Goldenvoice, who also host Coachella and Stagecoach, the Los Angeles event is a spinoff of the Pomona-based Viva! Festival, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

“Viva! goes beyond just a music festival, it has a strong mission of building community and representation, which has led to its cult following that started in L.A. and has since gone global,” organizers noted in a press release. “The fest celebrates those often overshadowed immigrants, youth of color, the underserved, the working class in the suburbs, various marginalized communities, and artists that have long been pushed out of the larger Anglo music arena.”

In Karol G’s world, she recently crossed off yet another new milestone achievement in her career, becoming the first woman to replace herself at No.1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart (dated May 14). “Provenza,” which debuted on the May 7 chart at No.2, traded places with “Mamiii,” with Becky G.

The track took top Stremaing Gainer honors, with a 25% gain to 13.7 million U.S. streams generated in the week ending May 5, according to Luminate, enough to secure its command on Latin Streaming Songs for a second week.
