Karen Pittman will not return to And Just Like That

After joining the Sex and the City reboot series for two seasons, Pittman will exit ahead of season three due to production and scheduling conflicts with other streaming shows. Pittman also stars in The Morning Show on AppleTV+ and Netflix's upcoming series Forever.

The 37-year-old actress portrayed Professor Nya Wallace, a friend of Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) in the Max show.

“It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That…,” a spokesperson for Max said in a statement to PEOPLE. “As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others.”

“Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible,” explained the streamer’s representative.

“Due to the production realities, we are disappointed to announce that scheduling conflicts will not allow us to continue with this character as part of season 3 of And Just Like That…,” the representative added. “Karen and Nya will be missed, and her Max family and fans will all be cheering her on in her other endeavors.”

The actress joined the reboot from the start and became one of the new friends of the core cast: Miranda, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). Pittman was joined by Nicole Ari Parker and Sarita Choudhury, who play Charlotte’s friend Lisa Todd Wexley and Carrie’s friend Seema Patel, respectively.

Nya divorced her husband, Andre (LeRoy McClain), in the second season, while Miranda separated from her husband, Steve (David Eigenberg). As both women navigated their separations, they found love shortly after and stood beside each other as they entered new relationships.

Pittman previously told PEOPLE that “it's a lot of fun to portray” a woman experiencing a change in her romantic relationships.

She also spoke about her character's friendship with Miranda, noting how their dynamic "explore[s] female relationships and how women support each other through these challenging times in funny and comedic ways," she explained to PEOPLE.

“That is what I think the show does so well,” added Pittman. “It's about sisterhood and female friendship, but it also is really about love. That's a joyful place to be in.”

While fans can now expect her departure from the Max series, she will return to AppleTV+'s The Morning Show for its fourth season. Pittman will reprise her role as Mia Jordan, the producer to Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon).

Additionally, Netflix announced earlier this month that Pittman will star in a reimagination of Judy Blume’s 1975 novel Forever. Pittman will portray Dawn Edwards, the mother to lead Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.).
