Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Fondly Remembers Muhammad Ali
On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the host took a trip down memory lane through the late, great Muhammad Ali’s career. NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was Ali’s friend and a fellow convert to Islam, fondly recounted a party he went to as a freshman at UCLA where he first met the legendary boxer. Kareem was messing around on a drum set and Ali picked up a guitar and pretended to play with him.
Ali was an expert trash talker, and Kareem remembered the time that the legendary boxer went to Sonny Liston’s camp and heckled him while he was training. Liston got so mad, he came out and got physical with Ali.
While Kareem shared many memories with Colbert, there was something that he wanted everyone to remember: “His understanding of what integrity was all about was remarkable, and it’s an example for us to repeat for our kids and grandkids because it was the real deal.”
