UPDATED: After today’s special Friday edition of his Sunday Service in Detroit, Kanye West held a multimedia event called “Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Experience” at the city’s Fox Theatre tonight. According to social-media reports from audience members, the album, which was expected to be released Friday, and an accompanying film were played.

Late Friday Complex cited West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, as saying there will be listening events in Chicago on Saturday and New York on Sunday, and the album will arrive on Sunday, although the screengrab they posted was not on her Twitter or Instagram accounts. A brief clip from the event was circulated on Twitter, although all that can be heard of the music is a choir singing “Hallelujah.”

The album’s release date has been a saga of its own over the past few days. Last month Kardashian tweeted what appeared to be an album tracklist filled with Christian-themed titles, which was then reposted by West on his website. No further concrete details have yet emerged, although Kardashian tweeted a revised version of the apparent tracklist an hour before the show was scheduled to begin (below), and West’s website was updated to include Detroit and “Jesus Is King” items.

Reached by Variety, West’s rep had no comment. A different rep, Trevian Kutti, a former R. Kelly publicist who has been reported to be working with West, tweeted — and then deleted — on Friday that the album was coming at 8 p.m., but that tweet may have been mistakenly referring to the show.
