Kanye West jokes about Kim Kardashian marriage during surprise appearance at BET Awards

Kanye West made a surprise appearance at the BET Awards, Sunday evening, which was his first appearance at an award show since his Grammy performance was canceled in April. And it was all in order to honor his friend and Lifetime Achievement award recipient Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

“You know, I took a little hiatus. I said I wanted to declare myself legally dead for a year. Nobody messing [with] me. You know, I just want to be off the grid. Puff is pretty persistent.”

While West paid his friend many compliments, he also called him out over some questionable advice.

“He broke down so many doors about classism, taste, culture, swag,” said West. “He inspired so many of my choices. So many of my life choices. My wife choices. And here we are. Thanks for that, Puff.”

West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from the hip hop star in February of 2021, and since then the former couple has been in the news repeatedly due to their tumultuous breakup.

Despite the joke about Kardashian, West celebrated the incredible career that Combs has enjoyed for the past three decades.

West said, “Puff, if I never told you, I love you.”
