“If I would have voted, I would have voted on Trump,” he said.
In video captured at the concert during his “Saint Pablo” tour, West is heard saying, “There are methods, non-political methods to speaking that I like, that I feel were very futuristic. That style, and that method of communication has proven that it can beat a politically correct way of communication, and I f— with that.”
West went on to call Trump and his campaign “genius.”
“I don’t think his approach was just entertainment because that trivialized it,” he said in a separate video posted online. “I actually think his approach was absolutely genius because it f—ing worked.”
West famously announced his 2020 bid for president during the MTV Music Video Awards in 2015.
“We’re going to teach our kids to believe in themselves,” he mused at the time. “I don’t know what I’m going to lose after this. It don’t matter, though. It ain’t about me. It’s about ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
A noted artistic provocateur, West included Trump in the music video for his song “Famous,” which featured an installation of 12 nude celebrities together in bed.
