Kanye West Faces Lawsuit Over Video Of Skid Row Thanksgiving Speech

Kanye West faces yet another lawsuit. According to Rolling Stone, the Chicago native is facing legal action over a video shared on Instagram.

Elijah Graham recorded the 46-year-old rapper during a charity event in Los Angeles’ Skid Row neighborhood in November 2021 during the Thanksgiving holiday. Graham, a volunteer event planner, claims to have recorded the moment to make money, however, his ability to profit was hindered when West allegedly uploaded the video without permission.

The viral clip directed traffic to West’s Instagram page and allegedly increased the rapper’s revenue on the platform. RS reports that Graham seeks an injunction and “actual damages and disgorgement of all of defendant’s profits attributable to the infringement.”

In the video obtained by PEOPLE, the “Jesus Walks” performer grabbed the microphone and spoke passionately alongside L.A. Mission CEO Troy Vaughn.

“The narrative God wants is to see that we can be redeemed in all these relationships. We’ve made mistakes. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve publicly done things that were not acceptable as a husband, but right now today, for whatever reason — I didn’t know I was going to be in front of this mic — but I’m here to change the narrative.”

He continued, “If the enemy can separate Kimye, there’s going to be millions of families that feel like that separation is okay… but when God brings Kimye together, there’s going to be millions of families that are going to be influenced to see that they can overcome the work of the separation, of trauma the devil has used to capitalize to keep people in misery while people step over homeless people to go to the Gucci store.”
