Upon the release of Kanye West’s latest album Jesus Is King earlier this month, fans immediately began breaking down every facet of the project. One such detail was the inclusion of a strange code on the blue vinyl record album artwork that read “AR 1331 A.” Now, Third Man Records co-founder Ben Blackwell has put the mystery to rest. “It’s the Archer Records (AR) pressing plant code assigned to this 1970 Detroit gospel single,” a new tweet from the label reads.
The A-side of the gospel single in question was recorded by Rubye Shelton and features two songs: “I Want the World to Know Jesus” and “God’s Going to Destroy This Nation.” According to Blackwell, the B-side features another two tracks: “The Hypocrite” and “Come Out of the Valley.” In a statement to Pitchfork, Blackwell said: “I knew the past decade spent in the deepest, loneliest recesses of Archer Record Pressing nerd-dom would eventually lead me to the biggest recording artist in the world. But enough about Jack White...who is this Kanye guy?”
