Kansas City is one of the top 25 most sinful cities in the United States. Here’s why

Kansas City residents may need to repent for their sins for their New Year’s resolution.

WalletHub recently compared 182 cities in the United States across 37 key indicators of evil deeds, discovering that the City of Fountains ranked 24th in the nation. That might seem low if you’ve been around Westport or the Power and Light District on a Saturday night.

WalletHub used seven key dimensions to determine its list of most sinful cities in the country. These dimensions are:

  • Anger and hatred, which includes bullying rate and deaths due to firearms per capita.

  • Jealousy, which measures theft and fraud.

  • Excesses and vices, measuring excessive drinking and adult coffee drinks as a part of its scale.

  • Greed, taking into account casinos per capita and charitable donations as a part of income.

  • Lust, measuring Google search interests in adult entertainment and adult entertainment establishments per capita.

  • Vanity, which looked into how many tanning salons a city has per capita and the Google search interest for “top five plastic surgeries.”

  • Laziness, including the share of adults who don’t exercise and the average daily time someone spent watching TV.

They examined the dimensions using 37 relevant metrics, which can be found here. Their data sources include the U.S. Census Bureau, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Trade Commission, the National Council on Problem Gambling, Gun Violence Archive and Tinder.

Kansas City ended up scoring 44.49 on WalletHub’s vice index. The highest score belonged to Las Vegas with 60.98, with St. Louis finishing right behind with 53.40.

The city’s rankings for each category are below:

  • Anger and hatred: 5

  • Jealousy: 16

  • Excesses and vices: 59

  • Greed: 117

  • Lust: 50

  • Vanity: 77

  • Laziness: 67

Kansas City tied with Memphis, Detroit, Baltimore, Milwaukee and St. Louis for first in most violent crimes per capita, one of the metrics WalletHub used to determine a city’s Anger & Hatred ranking.

Elsewhere, Wichita is the 22nd most sinful city with a score of 45.20, carried by a rank of 3 in the Jealousy category. Overland Park finished 134th with a score of 32.28.

It’s safe to say that Santa Claus will be leaving Kansas City and the metro with coal in their stockings for Christmas.
