Kansas City advised to stay weather aware Tuesday amid possible thunderstorms, tornadoes

As the Kansas City area is predicted to possibly see a round of severe weather beginning Tuesday, including thunderstorms and strong winds that could generate tornadoes, the National Weather Service was advising residents to stay tuned to the forecast.

Storms are expected to land in the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. The weather service says central and northeast Missouri are at greater risk, but cautions that a few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out in the Kansas City area.

Other hazards include hail and potentially damaging wind gusts around 50 miles per hour.

“There is the chance for a few different rounds of severe weather tomorrow. With the active weather, be sure you have a way to receive additional information!” the weather service said in a tweet Monday night.

The weather service’s Storm Prediction Center has placed the Kansas City area at a slight risk of severe thunderstorms, which means that scattered severe storms are possible. Any severe weather that develops should be short-lived and not widespread. Isolated intense storms are possible.

Temperatures to start the week will be quite warm, with the Kansas City expecting to reach the mid-70s on Monday and the mid-80s on Tuesday.

Predicted high winds have also led to increased concern that fires could rapidly spread Tuesday.

Dry and quiet weather conditions are expected to return, with temperatures in the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday.
