‘Kamasutra’ Sells Wide for Indywood, Indian Sales Outfit’s FilMart Slate Includes Asian Film Awards Nominee ‘Paradise’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Indian sales outfit Indywood Distribution Network has sold Rupesh Paul’s “Kamasutra — The Revenge” wide ahead of Hong Kong’s film rights market FilMart.

Starring Sherlyn Chopra, Milind Gunaji and Gajendra Chauhan, and produced by San2Creations, the film follows two princesses — one who is robbed of her dreams when forced to accept a middle-aged king as her husband, and another thirsty for revenge.

Indywood has sold the film to Twin (Japan, all rights), A2 Filmes (Latin America TV/VOD), Filmbridge (Mongolia, all rights), Pioneer Film (Philippines, all rights) and RFT Films (U.K./Ireland, theatrical).

The company has an extensive FilMart slate that also includes Sri Lankan auteur Prasanna Vithanage’s “Paradise,” winner of the Kim Jiseok award at Busan 2023 and nominated in four categories at the Asian Film Awards. Produced by Newton Cinema and starring Roshan Mathew, Darshana Rajendran and Shyam Fernando, the film follows an Indian couple who arrive in the hill country of crisis-ridden Sri Lanka to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. When things take an unexpected turn, conflicts deepen, revealing cracks in their relationship.

Also from Newton Cinema is Don Palathara’s Rotterdam 2023 title “Family,” in which a respected mentor reveals his evil nature, causing a clash of family values and custom. The cast includes Vinay Forrt, Nilja K. Baby and Divya Prabha.

Blessy’s “The Goat Life” follows the real-life incident of an Indian migrant worker, Najeeb Muhammad, who goes to Saudi Arabia to earn money. However, he finds himself living a slave-like existence, herding goats in the middle of the desert. Alta Global Media, Image Makers and Jet Media Prods. produced, with a cast led by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jimmy Jean-Louis and Amala Paul. The score is by Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman.

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s “Malaikottai Vaaliban” traces the journey of a warrior, who triumphs over every opponent he encounters. Malayalam-language cinema superstar Mohanlal headlines the cast that also includes Sonalee Kulkarni and Hareesh Peradi. It is produced by John & Mary Creative, Century Films and Maxlab Cinemas & Entertainment.

Siddharth Chauhan’s “Amar Colony” won the special jury award at Tallinn Black Nights 2022. Produced by Goopy Bagha Prods. and Indie Film Collective, the film stars Sangeeta Agrawal, Nimisha Nair and Usha Chauhan. “Amar” film follows three tales in the titular colony: one involving a crippled widow, another centered on a pregnant woman and a third focused on a religious devotee of Hindu god Hanuman.

Jude Anthany Joseph’s “2018,” a disaster film set during the 2018 Kerala floods, was India’s entry to the 2024 Oscars’ international feature category. Produced by Kavya Film Company, Anto Joseph Film Company and P.K. Prime Production, the film stars includes Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban and Asif Ali.

There are two canine-themed films on Indywood’s FilMart slate. In Kiranraj K’s 2022 box office hit “777 Charlie,” Dharma is stuck in a rut with his negative and lonely lifestyle. A pup named Charlie enters his life and gives him new perspective. Produced by Paramvah Studios, the film stars Rakshit Shetty, Charlie and Sangeetha Sringeri. Devan’s “Valatty” is the love story of two dogs, Tomy and Amalu, whose owners have religious differences. The dogs decide to elope. The cast includes Vijay Babu, Raghu Subhash Chandran and Indrans and the film is produced by Friday Film House.

Babitha Mathew and Rinn’s “Pyali” is the story of two young siblings’ compassion for each other and how they overcome obstacles in life. It is produced by NF Varghese Pictures and the cast includes Barbiee Sharma, George Jacob and Arjun.
