Kamasi Washington to Debut New Work at Whitney Biennial

Kamasi Washington will debut “Harmony of Difference,” his first new music since 2015, at New York’s Whitney Museum during their Biennial Event, as the New York Times reports. “Harmony of Difference” is a 37-minute six-song suite that “coheres around warm-hued harmonies and rhythms that mix swing, funk and calypso.” Washington’s performance will be accompanied by video from A.G. Rojas projected on flat-screen TVs around the room. Washington says of his new material, “I didn’t want it to sound chaotic. I wanted to show how you can pull these different musical pieces together in a way that felt harmonious.” The 2017 Whitney Biennial is set to open this Friday. Kamasi Washington’s last album was 2015’s The Epic.
