Born Nov. 8, 1967 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to a Puerto Rican mother, Matilda Pages, and Cuban percussionist Walfredo de los Reyes, he grew up in Las Vegas. Both his older brothers, Walfredo Jr. and Daniel, followed in their father's footsteps, becoming percussionists in various bands, including Chicago and the Zac Brown Band.

De los Reyes instead moved to Los Angeles in the '80s to pursue acting. In 1994, after a series of small roles, de los Reyes landed the part of Ray Ariaz on the primetime soap Valley of the Dolls, adapted from Jacqueline Susann's 1966 novel, starring Sally Kirkland as Helen Lawson.

That same year, the actor starred in the critically-acclaimed off-Broadway play Blade to the Heat. Valley of the Dolls only lasted one season, 65 episodes, but the following year de los Reyes began starring as Vega on One Life to Live.

He went on to act alongside Patrick Stewart in a Shakespeare in the Park production of The Tempest, and appeared regularly in films and television, from Jennifer Lopez's 2000 thriller The Cell to stints on Law & Order, CSI: Miami, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist, Pretty Little Liars, and Sleepy Hollow.

In 2012, de los Reyes provided the voice and motion-captured appearance of Raul Menendez, the main antagonist of the popular first person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Most recently, de los Reyes starred in ABC's The Rookie and had a recurring role on the CW's All American.

At the time of his death de los Reyes was filming All American and had shot roles in Hulu's upcoming limited series Washington Black, starring Sterling K. Brown, and Marvel's upcoming Daredevil series, per his family's spokesperson. "He was such a beloved member of our All American family," showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll told Deadline following news of the star's death. "He brought so much love, light and joy to the set every day, even during his final days. We are so grateful for every moment he spent with us."

De los Reyes is survived by his wife, Fosters and Good Trouble actress Sherri Saum, his former One Life to Live costar; their 9-year-old twins John and Michael; his son Caylen (26) from a previous relationship; his brothers Daniel and Walfredo, Jr; his sisters Lily and Ilde; his mother Matilde; and his father Walfredo.
