Kalahari Resort opens portions of outdoor waterpark expansion

One of the country's biggest waterpark resorts just got even bigger.

Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in Round Rock opened its outdoor waterpark expansion this week ahead of schedule. Here's what's included in the expansion:

  • Bugs Burrow, a kids-only, bug-themed play area with nine slides

  • Adventure River, a 900-foot-long "not-so-lazy river"

  • Thirsty Turtle, an adults-only swim- and- walk-up bar measuring 1,100 square feet

The Thirsty Turtle is still under construction, so only the kiddie area and river are open at this time. There is no set open date for the bar. The resort website simply says it is "coming soon."

At 223,000 square feet, Kalahari claims it has the biggest indoor waterpark in the U.S. Overnight guests receive access to both the indoor and outdoor waterparks with their stay, but day passes are available for those wanting to visit and then head home.
