A Whirlwind Romance

Kaitlynn Carter made headlines after her relationship with Miley Cyrus went public at the same time that Cyrus split with her husband, Liam Hemsworth. Although the relationship only lasted a month, Carter had a lot to say, particularly about how her time with Cyrus helped her discover new aspects of her sexuality.

In a new op-ed for Elle, Carter got very candid about how she felt about the "Wrecking Ball" singer and what she learned over the course of a passionate summer.

Her Side Of The Story

Her relationship with Cyrus was her first romantic one with a woman, and Carter was taken aback by how quickly she fell in love.

"This past July, I went on vacation with a female friend; the next thing I knew, I was in love with her. It wasn’t quite that simple, of course. But it also wasn’t very complicated, either. Until that trip, it had never crossed my mind that I was even capable of loving a woman the way I loved her. But after reflecting on my romantic history, I realized that I’ve never really had a ‘type.’"

Carter, who was married to reality star Brody Jenner, realized that she was no longer happy in her marriage and the two called it quits.

Moving From Friends To Lovers

After Carter broke up with Jenner and Cyrus broke up with Hemsworth, the two decided to go on a girls trip to Europe and things took a turn.

"Shortly thereafter, as my friend and I spent that August traveling through Europe together and trying to move past our respective break-ups, my first and only romance with a woman was born. Reflecting back on our three-year friendship, I realized I’d always been drawn to her in a way I wasn’t with other friends, but until that trip it had never crossed my mind to think of her in a romantic sense."

She's Ultimately Grateful

Even though it ended badly, Carter is ultimately grateful to have had this experience because it taught her so much about herself.

"While it was short-lived, I’ll remain eternally grateful to my most recent relationship for opening my eyes to this unexplored part of myself, and for inspiring a new level of self-discovery and wonder at all the possibilities of life. I’ve been forced to get to know myself in a far deeper way than ever before, and not just in terms of my sexual preferences. I’ve also been forced to reckon with who I am as a person."

Carter has not gone public with a new relationship, while Cyrus has moved on to actor Cody Simpson.
