All About Kaia Gerber's Famous Parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber

Kaia Gerber is really close with both her mom and dad

With parents like Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, it should come as no surprise that Kaia Gerber has a career as a successful model.

Crawford is a model who rose to fame in the 1980s and ‘90s and quickly became known as one of the most popular supermodels of all time. She has appeared in numerous ad campaigns, commercials and magazine covers over the course of her career. Aside from modeling, Crawford has also acted, gone into business with her own beauty line and furniture line and done a lot of charity work.

Rande is a former model but is now better known for his business ventures. Most notably, he has worked in the nightlife and hotel space and co-founded the tequila brand, Casamigos Tequila, with his longtime friend George Clooney.

Crawford and Rande have been happily married since 1998 and have two children, Kaia and Presley Gerber. Kaia is recognized for her modeling career and social media presence and has had several high-profile relationships, Presley is also a model, having worked with the likes of Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Tommy Hilfiger and Moschino, though he typically tends to keep a lower profile.

The family of four is a close-knit group who are often spotted together in public and have nothing but supportive things to say about one another. Here’s a look at everything there is to know about Kaia Gerber’s parents, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber.

Her parents got married in 1998 

Cindy and Rande met in the early ‘90s through a mutual friend. The couple got married on May 29, 1998, at an intimate ceremony on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Crawford wore a John Galliano mini dress and told Harper’s Bazaar in 2015 that the wedding was “supposed to be secret.” She added that they got married in front of family and friends and it was “so special.”

Crawford and Rande don’t open up about their relationship too often, but when they do, they always emphasize their strong friendship. “We really like being together, we have a good time together,” Rande said in a 2012 interview with Haute Living. “It takes a little bit of work, but if you’re friends first, it makes [marriage] so much easier. We both know what our priorities are and we work really hard.”

They have two children together

Crawford and Rande are parents to two kids: Presley and Kaia. Presley was born just about a year after they got married, on July 2, 1999. While he is not in the spotlight quite as much as his sister, Presley is also a model. As well as working for luxury fashion brands, in 2018 he appeared on the cover of L'Officiel Hommes.

Presley has also been open about his mental health struggles. During a 2023 appearance on the podcast Studio 22, he said, “[Mental health] is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job and there’s so much to it. That’s really what I want to do: help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body. I mean it could be anything, and there’s no judgment.”

Kaia was born on Sept. 3, 2021. She started modeling at the age of 10 and landed her first Vogue spread just four years later. She has worked with major fashion and beauty brands, has appeared on the cover of huge magazines and even posed alongside her mom.

She has also turned her hand to acting, as well as an early role in 2016 TV movie Sister Cities, more recently Kaia has appeared in the likes of American Horror Story: Double Feature and American Horror Stories and has a role in the upcoming Palm Royale. She has been dating the actor Austin Butler since 2021.

Crawford and Gerber are supportive of her career

Both Kaia and Presley have become models just like their parents, and Crawford and Rande are proud of their success.

In a May 2023 interview, Crawford talked to PEOPLE about what it was like to navigate Kaia’s massive social media success alongside her. “I’m learning along with her about that stuff, but I feel like she seems like she has a very good head on her shoulders and is figuring out how she wants to create that private work-public balance,” she said.

In 2021, Crawford talked about Kaia’s leap into acting during an appearance on Ellen Pompeo's podcast, Tell Me with Ellen Pompeo. “I’m proud of her because I guess in that way she is more confident than I was at that age,” she said, explaining that she had always been interested in trying acting when she was younger but didn’t have the courage to do it.

Kaia has worked with her parents

When Kaia and Presley first started out in the modeling world, they often worked together.

“I love working with him and every time we book a job together I get excited,” Kaia told PEOPLE in a 2017 interview. “At first when we were starting out, we used to shoot a lot together and we would just be there for each other, which is important, especially just starting in such a scary industry – to have someone there that you’re comfortable with.”

In 2018, Presley starred in a Pepsi commercial with Crawford. It aired during the Super Bowl LII and was a special moment for Crawford. “We drove to work together, we shared a trailer, and just as a mom watching him perform, I was the proud stage mom standing by the monitor,” she told PEOPLE.

Aside from modeling together, Kaia and Presley have also done charity work with their mom. In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Crawford talked about how her kids had done events with her at Children’s Hospital LA and Leukemia Society of America and to events for Little Star Foundation, which is for kids with cancer.

“What’s really cool is when you see they’re doing it on their own when I’m not taking them with me. I instilled that,” she said.

Crawford and Gerber have plenty of advice for their kids

When it comes to navigating the entertainment world, Kaia and Presley have their parents to look up to. In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Kaia talked about her mother’s influence on her own career, saying, “If anyone had a point of reference, I definitely did and one of the best ones. For me [modeling] wasn’t a foreign world to go into and I felt like I understood it. I knew what I was kind of getting into. I’d been around it a lot.”

Meanwhile, in a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Crawford also explained that her daughter is able to look to her parents when it comes to handling fame and success.

"I think that she kind of sees how my husband and I have dealt with it throughout the years," she explained. "Which is not like, we don't ever try to, 'Oh, we can't go there because we might get photographed.'"

Crawford has also stated that she will always be there to help her kids with modeling and acting. In 2017, she told PEOPLE that while she wished Kaia had waited a little longer to start modeling, she understood why she had done it.

“The great thing for my kids is that I know a lot about that world,” she said. “I feel like: Who better to help guide them than me?”

They have a traditional family dynamic

In an April 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Crawford shared some insights into her relationship with Rande, saying that the way they split chores and household duties is “more traditional.”

“I was going to joke and say I can barely get him to pick up a wet towel, which is partly true, but I will say if something around the house needs repair – he’ll repair it if he knows how,” she said. “We’re pretty good at divvying up the responsibilities of life.” She went on to say that she handles more of the groceries, menu planning and scheduling.

They’ve also always been determined to give their kids a normal life despite how famous the family is. In 2012, Crawford told Haute Living that they try to have dinner as a family every night. “Maybe two nights a week we’re actually out at events, but the rest of the time we are sitting down, having family dinners at home,” she told the outlet. “We have a pretty normal life considering all the craziness around us.”

Although they have busy schedules, Crawford and Rande prioritize their relationship as much as possible. In 2017, she told PEOPLE, “All throughout our marriage, we have made time to just be together, whether it’s a walk on the beach or a weekend away. And I think we laugh with each other and we really respect each other’s opinion. Even when we don’t agree.”

Kaia spends a lot of time with her parents 

There’s no doubt that Crawford and Rande maintain a close relationship with both of their kids. In 2018, Presley told PEOPLE, “We’re a close family, especially me and my sister, so it’s definitely cool.”

In October 2023, the four all donned costumes for the annual Casamigos Tequila Halloween party in Beverly Hills, California. Crawford, Rande and Presley attended the Celine fall/winter 2023 Fashion Show together to watch Kaia walk the runway in December 2022.

Crawford and Rande are also welcoming to their kid’s significant others. Kaia and Butler have been on double dates with her parents. In May 2023, the two couples were spotted getting dinner at Roberta’s in Culver City, California.

Kaia and Crawford are especially close

Not only do Kaia and Crawford look like twins, they are also frequently seen together and have talked about how much they love and respect each other.

In November 2023, the two attended the Planet Omega Fashion Panel and Cocktail Party in N.Y.C. to celebrate Crawford’s partnership with Omega. At another Planet Omega event that same month, Kaia talked to PEOPLE about their bond.

“I do feel like we’ve established a really strong bond and friendship outside of just a mother-daughter dynamic, which has been so fun for me over the last few years,” Kaia said. “She is a cool mom and she still embarrasses me constantly,” she added. “But it’s good! It brings me back down to earth … I probably embarrass her constantly as well.”

In September 2022, the pair went to Burning Man together, an experience Crawford explained as “so far out of our comfort zone.” The two also regularly snap photos together where they look like twins, whether they’re wearing the same outfit or something very similar. They also do some modeling work together as well. Meanwhile, back in 2016, Kaia landed her first Vogue Paris cover, which featured a photo of herself and Crawford.

Kaia has also praised her mom as a role model and friend on social media. In February 2023, she posted a birthday tribute to her mom, sharing a sweet throwback video on Instagram that featured shots of a pregnant Crawford and Kaia as a baby. In the caption, she wrote, “happy birthday to my hero, the woman who brought me into this world and who’s arms I’ve been falling into ever since.”
