Kacey Musgraves Wins Female Artist of the Year Over Miranda Lambert at 2019 ACM Awards
Kacey Musgraves is country music's new queen!
The "Rainbow" singer took home the award for Female Artist of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards on Sunday, breaking Miranda Lambert's longtime streak. Until now, Lambert had won the accolade every year since 2010.
Taking the stage in her ombre Christian Cowan suit that won her a spot on ET's Best Dressed list, Musgraves gave a brief speech about always staying true to yourself, even when people tell you to change.
"I have to say that this award goes out to any woman, any girl or anybody, really, that is maybe being told that her perspective or her style is too different to work," she said. "It'll work out."
Musgraves' latest album, Golden Hour, also took home the award for Album of the Year, beating out Dan + Shay, Eric Church, Chris Stapleton and Dierks Bentley. In various interviews, including with ET, Musgraves has said that many of the songs on the album were inspired by her husband, fellow country singer Ruston Kelly.
"His songs made me really emotional. I thought, 'This guy's really clever, whoever he is,'" she told Glamour. "And then [once we met] it was, 'That’s all she wrote.' Pun intended. Everything was right. I didn't have to shift any part of my personality to make it fit together, which isn’t really something I've had before."
"That whole time period was a big opening of heart for me," she continued. "I started to see the world in a more fond, pretty light. After meeting this person who really allows me to just be myself, not have to walk on eggshells for any reason, songs started pouring out."
