K. Michelle Finds Herself Some Toxic Country Lovin’ In “Tennessee” Video

K. Michelle has finally introduced the world to her country alter ego, Puddin.

Just days before the singer releases her final R&B album, I’m The Problem, she has released the bonus track and its accompanying video from the project — which serves as the formal introduction for her upcoming country EP.

Upon the drop, the Memphis native wrote on Instagram, “Cowgirls are BORN, we are not manufactured. We just getting started.”

In the three-minute visual, Puddin and her girls are sitting around a campfire as she sings about falling in love with a shirtless man, who winds up being no good for her.

“He had too much to drink again/ And he went from a gentleman/ Into a demon I don’t recognize,” she sings in the Louis York and Claude Kelly production before realizing that it’s time for the prodigal child to return home with hope that there’s a better life for her there.

After getting into an altercation with her lover, her friends pack up her pickup truck, which is attached to her white carriage and she rides off into her new life — dressed as Elvis Presley. “I’m from Memphis and having the costume design team from the movie personally create this meant the world to me,” Puddin wrote regarding the intentional representation.

The video represents her current chapter as she retires from R&B and embarks on her new journey in the world of country music.

The 41-year-old explained to VIBE, “I think the beginning tracks [of ‘I’m The Problem’] just represent how I started and where I’m at now and where I’m going… And country is something that I think is a lifestyle and it’s something that I do. So that’s always in me and it’s something that’s going to be presented.”

Puddin’s debut country EP is slated for release on Nov. 22, but she has not revealed when fans can expect the full album. Watch “Tennessee” above.
