Justin Verlander missed the Astros parade to marry Kate Upton and people are mad

The Houston Astros celebrated their World Series win with a parade Friday. It had all the usual things — cheering fans, victory speeches, proclamations from politicians and more smiles than you count. There was only one thing missing: Justin Verlander.

The Astros’ ace pitcher, as you might have heard, is reportedly getting married this weekend in Italy to his supermodel fiancée Kate Upton. That and a World Series win in the same week, huh? It doesn’t suck to be Justin Verlander.

One problem: Some people on Twitter seem shocked, outraged and/or surprised by Verlander’s decision. Behold:

Then there’s Lloyd over here, who is trying to change Kate’s mind in the 11th hour:

Dunno, Lloyd. It might be too late. He just won a World Series, ya know?

About that World Series, fellow Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel was at least kind enough to give Verlander a shout out during the speech portion of the festivities, noting that Verlander wasn’t there. He then appeared to record a video of the crowd cheering for Verlander.

Is it ideal for Verlander to miss the World Series parade? Probably not. Is it understandable to miss it for his wedding? Sure.

You gotta remember: He was playing for the Detroit Tigers until Aug. 31. And we all know the Tigers weren’t thinking about a World Series parade back in August.
