Everyone's calling it a "scandal," but that's a very strong word - what really happened was more of an "incident,
The drama began in November 2019 when Justin Timberlake was spotted out with his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright. Their movie had been filming on location in New Orleans when they decided to visit a bar following a day of shooting. Videos soon surfaced online of the two getting a little cozy - that is, holding hands - but Justin took to Instagram to clear the air.
"A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgement," he wrote in his post. "But let me be clear - nothing happened between me and my costar...I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be. This was not that."
Our most recent report on the matter came two weeks ago when Justin and Jessica were seen having dinner at Los Angeles' Hotel Bel-Air. Today, an insider came forward with a positive update, assuring that Hollywood's favorite couple is in a "good place."
"Justin and Jessica love one another very much and weren't going to let this come between them, more so since Justin told Jessica he didn’t cheat, and she believes him," the source told ET. "The couple has put everything past them and has moved on."
As the word of the
scandal incident broke, another insider spoke to PEOPLE to affirm that Jessica has no intentions of splitting from her husband.
“Obviously Justin drank too much this time, but Jessica believes he didn’t cheat on her."
“What’s most important to her in life is her family and being the best mom to Silas. She’ll never break up her family over something like this.”
Although it's been noticed that Jessica has not publicly commented on the situation, it's best to view this as a good sign. Justin's Instagram apology specifically said that he prefers to "stay away from gossip," so there's a good chance that goes for his wife, too.
The PEOPLE insider alluded that the misstep was somewhat of a wakeup call for Justin.
“I don’t think he would do anything to change his current situation. He has grown up a lot over the past few years and enjoys every minute of being a dad. He even likes the added responsibilities. I doubt it will happen again."
Timberlake's upcoming film Palmer covers the life of a former college football athlete whose life and career were shaken up following imprisonment. The movie began its principal photography last fall and no release timeline has been announced.
