Justin Timberlake is getting ready to release new music — and he's already feeling that sunshine in his pocket and good soul in his feet.

As the pop singer, 43, is on the cusp of releasing his first album in six years with Everything I Thought It Was on March 15, a source opens up to PEOPLE about his highly anticipated return to music.

The insider explains that the Grammy winner felt compelled to get back into the studio after spending the past few years away from work to focus on his family, including his wife of nearly 12 years Jessica Biel and their two sons, Silas, 8½, and Phineas, 3½.

Justin "just had this urge to create again,” the source says. “It was time.”

The source adds that the couple has “been fortunate to spend a lot of family time together in the past few years.”

“It’s been very special,” they say of the hitmaker and actress’ life together in Montana, where they’ve chosen to raise their children outside of Hollywood. “Work has come second while they’ve raised their boys.”
