‘I Just Don’t Know What It Was That We Did Wrong,’ Says Mom Of Raising Teen She Claims Is Out Of Control

Dr. Phil asks a couple who claim their teenage son is violent and out of control to examine their role in his behavior.

Josh and Lena say their 15-year-old son, Cole, has been kicked out of three homes and three schools in the past year due to behavior and disciplinary issues. Claiming the teenager is violent, has vandalized their home, and acts out against his mother and younger brothers, they also say he’s too dangerous to live at home.

Cole denies his parents claims and instead says his parents are “too strict,” and that his father has slapped him, pushed him down the stairs, and tried to fight him in the yard of their home, which they deny.

“I keep asking you what is your ownership in this child arriving at the point he has arrived developmentally, and you keep telling me what’s wrong with him.” Dr. Phil says to Josh and Lena on Friday’s episode.

“I just don’t know what it was that we did wrong,” Lena replies, adding, “I mean, maybe we didn’t hug him enough. I don’t know.”

“I’m asking you for self-examination,” says Dr. Phil. “You’re showing no insight, no self-examination, and no empathy for how he might look at you as parents.”
