‘It Was Just The Blind Leading The Blind,’ Psychiatrist Says About Parents Navigating The Pandemic With Kids

Seventy million children will forever be affected by what they’ve experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the world went into lockdown and schools closed, kids were forced to remain at home and many only had the option of online schooling, which isolated them further from their peers. “Anybody with anxiety issues, they got amplified. OCD started to be emerging,” Psychiatrist Dr. Charles Sophy tells Dr. Phil on Tuesday’s episode. “The more anxiety people had, the more it spills into a mood disorder, and they’re depressed. They have no treatment. They have nobody to help them, and they’re stuck in their homes, and parents aren’t equipped to deal with that. The parents are fearful and depressed. So, it was just the blind leading the blind.” On Tuesday’s episode, “Life After Lockdown: Families in Crisis,” Dr. Sophy shares tools from his new book, Family Values: Reset Trust, Boundaries, and Connection With Your Child, to help families navigate out of chaos and back to a healthy dynamic.
