Jury finds Alex Jones a liar and menace. Why’s Infowars on Wichita TV 24 hours a day?

Alex Jones has just been hit with a $49 million jury verdict over the lies he tells and the danger it causes to the people he lies about.

But here in Wichita, his Infowars program still runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And as far as I can tell, KCTU-TV Wichita is the last television station in America to carry it.

Infowars is a vile and revolting stew of psychopathy masquerading as politics, punctuated by frequent commercials in which Jones hawks his house-brand dietary supplements and toothpaste.

That’s while he’s now begging people to send him Bitcoin to help out with his legal bills, from the time 10 years ago when he insisted the Sandy Hook school massacre — which killed 26 people — was a hoax staged by the government to bring about more gun control.

Jones was found liable in a Texas court for essentially putting targets on the backs of grieving parents, whom he called crisis actors. Predictably, they were harassed and death-threatened by Jones’ supporters.

Under oath, Jones had to admit that he was full of it, that Sandy Hook actually happened and that it was irresponsible to push the conspiracy theory.

And hard to believe, that may not be the worst of his issues. During the case, Jones’ legal team mistakenly turned over two years of his phone text messages, including some between him and members of the inner circle around former President Donald Trump.

Those messages have now been sent to the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

And it’s been confirmed that the messages include a naked picture of Jones’ wife that he sent to former Trump political advisor Roger Stone.

So much for the conservative Christian values Jones constantly prattles about.

But last week, Jones was on air running his time-tested playbook. This time, it’s a fantasy that the “deep state” will pull a false flag operation and assassinate President Joe Biden, Trump, or both, to ignite a civil war between the left and the right.

His set-up man, fellow Infowars host Owen Shroyer, introduced it with this tirade about Democrats: “We know you’re the bad guys, you’re the communists, you’re the anti-American degenerate culture scum, rot gut of our civilization.”

Take out the word “communist” and it’s the best description I’ve ever heard of “Alex Jones Infowars.” That’s why it’s been deplatformed by Apple, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and anyone else with a shred of decency or common sense.

So why does KCTU waste one of its channels 24-7 on this garbage, and why’s it on late-night radio on KQAM?

Ratings.

Andy Hooser, operations manager for KQAM, said although Jones’ ratings have fallen since his peak during the Trump administration, he’s still in the top 50 talk show hosts.

And Sheryl Nutt, who owns KCTU with her husband Ron, said “We have talked about dropping him from time to time, but our viewers really like him.” She also said the station likes to make a broad spectrum of information available and let viewers decide who to believe.

That’s weak. Jones isn’t informing anyone of anything. He’s just making stuff up.

This might be a good time to mention that the guy who’s facing trial on charges of threatening to kill Mayor Brandon Whipple had an Infowars sticker on his car, along with “Remember Waco” — the tragic incident that launched Jones’ conspiracy career — painted on the window.

It’s time for this to end.

Calling Jones’ act fake news is an insult to fake news. As we used to say when I was in radio, it’s UFB — unfit for broadcast.

Democrats don’t deserve the daily vitriol they get from Infowars. Republicans deserve factual information so they don’t get hoodwinked by Jones’ conspiracies and come off looking as loony as he is.

Alex Jones obviously doesn’t have the decency to clean up his act, even after all he’s been through.

It’s high time our local broadcasters realize that and pull the plug on Infowars.
