‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Stays No. 1 After Monster Week at Box Office
“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” led the box office to another monstrously successful week, as combined grosses topped $400 million for the second week in a row.
In the history of the domestic box office, only 11 weeks have topped $400 million, and four of those weeks belong to 2018. “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Incredibles 2” have driven this robust period, giving the box office back-to-back $100 million-plus openings on non-holiday weekends for the first time in industry history.

This weekend, “Fallen Kingdom” is posting an estimated second weekend total of $60 million, down 59 percent from its $148 million opening. While that’s a weaker hold than the 49 percent drop by the first “Jurassic World,” it will still push the sequel’s 10-day domestic total past $250 million and put the film in position to cross $1 billion worldwide early next week.
“Incredibles 2” once again takes second, with an estimated $45 million in its third weekend to push its total past $400 million. Next week, the “Incredibles” sequel is on track to pass “Finding Dory” as the top animated film in domestic box office history.

In third and fourth are this weekend’s new releases, Columbia’s “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” and Lionsgate’s “Uncle Drew,” respectively, which are performing well as counter-programming to the mainstream sequels.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado” is estimated to make $20 million this weekend from 3,055 screens. By comparison, the first “Sicario,” which started with a two-week limited release period, had a wide opening of $12.1 million, which trackers expected “Soldado” to match. The $35 million sequel has earned fairly positive reception, with a 64 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and a B on CinemaScore.
“Uncle Drew,” which was expected to open in the low teens, will slightly overperform with an estimated $16 million from 2,742 screens. Starring Kyrie Irving, Lil Rel Howery, Tiffany Haddish and a quintet of retired NBA stars including Shaquille O’Neal, the film earned a 67 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A on CinemaScore.
“Ocean’s 8” completes the top five with $8.1 million, having crossed the $100 million mark last weekend.
