‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Stays Atop Box Office With $60 Million
Another successful June for the box office came to an end this weekend, as Universal’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” stayed atop the charts with an estimated second weekend total of $60 million.
This gives the “Jurassic” sequel a 10-day total of $264 million. While that total is 35 percent down from the $402 million 10-day total scored by “Jurassic World” in 2015, it is enough to push “Fallen Kingdom” past “Solo: A Star Wars Story” and enter the top five on this year’s domestic charts. Overseas, the film added $56.1 million to bring its global total to $932.4 million, with China contributing $237 million. The film will become the 35th release to cross $1 billion worldwide this coming week.
In second is “Incredibles 2,” which earned $44 million in its third weekend to bring its domestic total to $438 million. The Pixar sequel is now in position to become the highest-grossing animated film in domestic box office history this coming week, passing the $486 million made by 2016’s “Finding Dory.”

Taking third is Columbia’s “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” which has earned an estimated $19 million opening from 3,055 screens against a reported $35 million budget. That tops the combined total for the first “Sicario”‘s two-week limited release period and wide opening weekend, with a limited run of $3 million and a wide opening of $12.1 million.
In fourth is Lionsgate’s “Uncle Drew,” which performed slightly above tracker expectations with an opening of $15.5 million at 2,742 locations. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 63 percent and an A on CinemaScore, the basketball comedy will hope to have solid holds through the month of July in much the same way that New Line’s “Game Night” did earlier this year.

In total, the box office gross for June hit $1.2 billion for the first time since 2015, when “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out” topped the charts. From the first weekend of May to now, domestic totals have also reached $2 billion. When the record totals for the opening week of “Avengers: Infinity War” are taken into account, that total balloons to $2.5 billion. That puts this year’s summer season on pace to top 2013 as the most successful summer on record.
This past week, domestic grosses for the year crossed $6 billion before the end of June for the first time in industry history. With over $6.1 billion grossed, 2018 grosses are now a whopping 10 percent ahead of last year’s pace.
